USB Driver needed

I have purchased a USB cable to connect my Sony K700i phone and I am unable to install the software onto my compter as it says that 'the operative system is not adequate for operating PC Suite' I am a complete dunce when it comes to computers. I have an old packard Bell which has been upgraded to 512mb RAM, 14GB HDD and 32MB Graphics and I am running Windows 98. I cannot understand why this is not installing. Can anyone help. The system requirements for the disk state:-
Windows 98/2000, available USB port, 20MB free HD space
Minimum 16mb RAM. I have all these any yet it still will not work

There were two releases of Windows 98, bog standard Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition. It's possible that the software requires Second Edition and you have the original version

Another possibility is your USB ports aren't functioning correctly, to check this right click on My Computer and select Properties from the menu, click on the Device Manager tab and you should get a list of devices, the last ones should be your USB ports.
