network cards

Postby Fergal on Mon Jan 22, 2007 11:30 pm

Unable to get a network connection between 2 desktops - PC 1 has a broadband connection via usb modem - Network card connected to PC 2 but although windows says card working ok unable to log onto internet on PC2 via PC 1 - message says network cable disconnected.

Laptop used instead of PC2 and internet connection made with no problems. Different network card used in PC 2 but still same problem. request help and advice as I have no idea what to look for on PC2.

Thanks for the tip on using a crossover cable. This is the bit I do not understand. Why does it work with the laptop if it is the wrong cable. The cable was also used in a prevous location and worked between 2 desktops.
